Message from President Alan
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Braunton Caen.
We were chartered on December 14th 2010 and
we are looking forward to our first anniversary.
Our members represent diverse business and
professional backgrounds and are dedicated
to expanding Rotary services in the local
and wider community. In common with many
other new Rotary clubs, our aim is to appeal
to a wider and younger group of men and women
with ideas, energy and enthusiasm who are
happy with less formality and an emphasis
on fun and friendship. Because of our expanding
membership we are changing our regular meetings
to Wednesdays at 7pm at the Ebrington Arms,
Knowle, Braunton, with an optional meal to
follow.
This Presidential year began with a "handover"
barbecue and fellowship has been developed
further at other events such as a putting
competition, South African Braii and "Proms
in the Hall".
During the summer we have had a very productive
and enjoyable programme of educational visits
to Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station, Exmoor Zoo,
Stuart Holder's Nursery, the Calvert
Trust and Chambercombe Manor.
Our busy programme of activities will be
updated regularly on the website.
We are a major supporter of Shelterbox which
provides humanitarian relief for natural
disasters around the world, and the End Polio
Now Campaign.
We enjoy success in team-based events such
as the Rotary Pub Games Competition, Startrek,
the Exmoor Challenge, and Relay for Life.
We work with the RNIB in the Eyes Right Campaign
and with the Stroke Association's Know
Your Blood Pressure Day.
Our first Classic Car Tour was a great success
and will be an annual event.
We facilitate local organisations and charities
to raise money by taking part in Rotary's
Megadraw.
Our flower planter has brightened up the
village centre throughout the summer and
will be re-planted ready for the winter and
spring.
Planning has begun for the Jubilee Braunton
Village Fair in partnership with the Rotary
Club of Braunton. This is a major fund raising
event and will take place on Monday June
4th 2012.
Our special Christmas event will be the "Father
Christmas Sleigh" which will visit most
parts of Braunton during the week beginning
December 12th.
New ideas for fund raising and service are
constantly being proposed and we welcome
interest from anyone who would like to attend
our meetings to learn more about Rotary.
